Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

The natural process of aging manifests itself through facial wrinkles and lines, a lack of elasticity, and hair loss. Many people, as a result, feel insecure about their appearance. Luckily, they don’t have to continue to live with low self-confidence. Platelet-rick plasma (PRP) therapy can reverse the clock, enabling you to enjoy youthful, beautiful, and healthy skin.

If you live in South Florida, Palm Beach Dermatology Group can administer this treatment. Here, one of our doctors extracts a sample of your blood and injects it into your problem areas. We can delve deeper into what this procedure entails when you come to our office for an appointment.

About
What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy?

Per Johns Hopkins Medicine, our blood comprises these two components:

  • Plasma, the liquid part of the blood
  • Platelets, a type of blood cell that has healing properties and can stimulate cell growth and tissue regeneration

Basically, when plasma is platelet-rich, it has more platelets than usual. When our doctors create it, we take a sample of your blood and insert it into a centrifuge. This instrument spins the blood, separates its different elements, and concentrates the bioproteins (e.g., growing agents) in the plasma sample.

We then inject the platelet-rich plasma into the targeted area. Depending on your reasons for receiving this treatment, it should encourage hair growth, prevent hair loss, treat male pattern baldness, as well as reduce the appearance of wrinkles and promote anti-aging.

Diagnosis

If You’re a Good Candidate
for PRP Therapy

Anyone who is in relatively good health can benefit from PRP therapy. If you’ve had cancer, suffered from blood-related diseases (anemia), dealt with an infection in the target area, or smoke, you might want to talk to our team about your options.

Expectations

What to Expect From PRP Therapy in South Florida

Before your PRP therapy session, make sure you eat and drink water beforehand, especially if you tend to feel squeamish at the sight of blood.

It can take several weeks or even months to notice a difference in your hair and face following PRP injections. Although the results are not permanent, they can last for a couple of years. Our team may recommend that you undergo additional sessions for an optimal outcome.

In terms of what happens immediately after the treatment, you might feel the same as you did when you walked in for the appointment. At most, you may have scabs or pigmentation. Also, since we’re using your own blood, the chances of you suffering an allergic reaction are almost non-existent. We might even administer it while you’re receiving other treatments. In very rare cases, patients may suffer from redness, swelling, or infections in or around the injection sites.
